As we dive into Supernatural season 12 episode 21 — and, in turn, get closer to the finale — it makes sense to see familiar faces. Lady Toni is one of these said faces who’s important to the season’s mythology. She was the vessel who really introduced us to the British Men of Letters, and her presence moving towards the end of the season is essential to wrapping it up.
Elizabeth Blackmore’s appearance on “There’s Something About Mary” next week (odds are, the story here is very different from the Cameron Diaz movie!) is her first guest spot of 2017, and it’s one of two that is confirmed at present. We also know that she’ll be back for one of the two hours in the May 18 finale. As for her story, what we know right now is that her presence could be factored in to the Mary Winchester arc as that potentially winds down.
Synopsis – “Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are alarmed when they learn hunters are being killed by suspicious “accidents” all over the country. They decide it is best to find Mary (guest star Samantha Smith) and make sure she’s safe. Meanwhile, Toni (guest star Elizabeth Blackmore) is back in the states and she and Mary face off.”
We suppose that in theory, it may be wrong to write off Mary as a character beholden to just season 12; we’re just following the Supernatural pattern of having stories that tend to flutter in and out on a season basis. For example, we’re not exactly seeing Amara around this season. The purpose of Mary was to in part offer the Winchesters closure on the past, and it feels like they’ve had way more than they bargained for already with her. These final episodes should serve to give an emotional peak to the story, and from there we’ll have to wait and see precisely what the future will hold for season 13. We want there to be an epic cliffhanger, mostly because that’s just a part of the fun that is this show at this point. We’ll live without one, but we like having something to talk about. (Someone cue “Let’s Give Them Something to Talk About” on the ol’ jukebox.)
